Frequently Asked Questions
What is MDF?
MDF, medium density fiberboard, is made out of wood waste fibers glued together with resin, heat and pressured. MDF takes well to prime and paint leaving an attractive and smooth finish, unlike other wood products. MDF is smooth, uniform and doesn't warp. MDF is green friendly as solely made from waste that would otherwise be dumped in a landfill.
When will I receive my doors after I order them?
Please view the top of our homepage for updated lead times for finished and unfinished products. Typically unfinished doors will ship in approximately 1 week, primed and finished painted doors are approximately 3-4 weeks and custom doors are approximately 3-4 weeks.
What MDF grade/quality do you use?
We use the best quality of MDF that is on the market. Why does the quality of MDF matter, it matters because of how it machines which effects sanding time (which could effect how smooth the finish door would be). The MDF we use qualifies for all LEED, CARB (California Air Resources Board), SCS (Scientific Certification Systems), EPP, SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative), HUD CFR 3280, National Association of Home Builders - Model Green Home Building Guidelines, Green Globes Systems.
What are concealed hinges?
Concealed hinges, also known as European cup hinges, are unseen when the door is closed. We offer boring for the holes required by mounting these hinges as well as supplying the hinges. If you would like flush mount hinges call us at 1-877-206-1052 or email us at info@CrystalLakeMillworks.com.
How will my cabinet doors be finished?
All cabinet doors and drawer fronts are shipped unfinished. Our recommendation is that you prime/seal them within 72 hours of receiving them. Sanding the doors or drawer fronts before priming/sealing is the customers responsibility. We also recommend that you sand between each coat.
